Selling with Amazon to millions of online buyers is what each and every business in the world is willing of. There are two models offered by Amazon which are worthy to invest in. First is selling the products or others after getting permission from the brand or manufacturer of the product. This is a wholesale model and it can be done with either the FBA model or the FBM model. Another model is the private label model, in which one can sell products with own brand name after getting a patent of a special featured product. Selling private label products aims towards bringing brand benefits and having a business growing day by day.
Once a seller is decided to sell a product on Amazon, it is important to create a product listing of the product to be sold on Amazon and add the list to the inventory list of the seller central dashboard. To list the product, Amazon required a unique product identification code which is used to make arrangements of inventory receiving, inventory storage, order processing tasks. If the product is sold under the wholesale model, most of the suppliers and manufacturers provide these requires codes. However, in the case of private label business models, the GTIN codes can be made exempted by Amazon. Below is the process to get these identification codes exempted both in the case of the wholesale business model and in the private label model.
- Get to the seller central page and open the “Add Inventory” tab under the main tab of Inventory.
- You would be directed towards the Amazon webpage where you would be asked to enter the product identification code. Apart from the GTIN, there are also options of ISBN, EAN, or a UPC code. All these four codes are similar which gives the name of the product and its brand, however, the code generating authority is different in all four cases.
III. For making the GTIN exemption request, go to the bottom of the page where there is a tab of “Apply for a GTIN Exemption”. Just click on this tab to move forward.
- On the next page, you should select your category by clicking on the tab “Product Category”.
- If your product category is not listed, then this means the product category in which you are going to sell on Amazon is gated and Amazon requires proper documentation to ungated the category. You can file the case to ungated the category with Amazon before trying to request for GTIN exemption.
- If your category is listed, then enter your brand name and get to know if the brand requires any GTIN or not. If you are having a product that isn’t a product of a brand, then just enter the word GENERIC into the tab.
VII. Then, Amazon will ask to provide proof of permission by the supplier, manufacturer, or brand owner.
VIII. You need to provide a maximum of 9 real-life photographs of the product for which you are in need of the code exemption. The images should be in high resolution and from all the angles of the product.
- Then enter the Submit tab and you will receive an email regarding the request tab. If your request is provided approval, you would be notified by the Support team of Amazon.
